Trip Home Hodge Podge

No, we didn’t disappear off the face of the earth! It’s just been hard for me to find the time to blog. So here’s an update:

1) Our trip from UT to NY went a little bit differently than we had planned…my poor husband got the tomato salmonella the day we left UT, so he was sick almost the whole time! Due to his weakened condition, we weren’t able to see the Church sites we had set out to see, but that’s okay. As Mathieu’s Aunt Janele put it, “The Church sites will always be there.” So we’ll just have to make plans to see everything another time. I’ve never liked tomatoes and many people commented on how crazy I was. I think it’s a blessing now!! Here are two pics of us driving through Nebraska.

2)  We have attended 2 family reunions so far this summer. Mathieu’s brother, Jon, is showing his skills in a couple of the pictures below. He’s thinking of majoring in pooper scooper-ing at BYU.

3)  When Liz and Lauren got into town just over a week ago, I made most of my in-laws, my mom, and my baby brother go to Charlotte Beach. The beach is right on Lake Ontario (one of the Great Lakes, for those who don’t know) which is about 10 minutes from where I grew up. First, we went to the original Abbotts Frozen Custard, a must-try when you’re in the Rochester NY area, and then we had a sand castle making contest. My father-in-law was the judge, and I dare say the best judge in the world, because Mathieu and I won the contest! There was murmuring from all the other teams, but they just couldn’t compete with the creativity that exists in our marriage. My mom’s was the cutest and she finished in record time…30 seconds! Ours was the one shaped like a face. You may think it doesn’t look like a castle, HOWEVER, the castle was inside. You have to enter through the eyeballs. The girls all traveled together in one car and we had to wait like a 1/2 hour for the boys to arrive (they had a hidden agenda they didn’t tell us about). My mom, Rosie, Liz, and Lauren were getting pretty impatient…and the last picture is of me stealing a kiss from my sweetheart with a beautiful sunset behind us.

4) I’ve been spending lots of time unpacking and organizing our home. We have been able to get some great deals on things through people we know and from Craig’s List. Here are my favorites:

My PIANO!!! $100 on Craig’s List. I’m LOVING having it in our house. It’s really nice to just be able to play it whenever I want!

Treadmill: $100 on Craig’s List

Matching changing table and crib: $125 from a girl in our ward’s neighbor’s garage sale…complicated sounding, I know! These are so beautiful and in perfect condition. We’re the luckiest couple in the world! Mathieu hasn’t had time to finish putting the crib together yet, but once he does I’ll post some pictures with the mattress and bedding. OH! One of the girls in our ward gave me the most BEAUTIFUL crib bedding for free (to be seen in a forthcoming post).

Highchair: $20 at a garage sale on my mom’s street a few weeks ago. It’s in good condition, but needs some cleaning. I figure we won’t be needing it for some time, so I haven’t gotten around to cleaning it yet!

5) Our little baby is growing bigger and bigger, and so is my belly! I’ve been able to feel her moving around since I was 18 weeks along, and Mathieu started being able to feel her move at 24 weeks (we’re 26 1/2 weeks now). It makes it so much more fun when Mathieu can feel her too! I’m feeling great and can’t wait for the next 14 weeks to pass quickly! I’m dying to see this little baby girl.

6) Mathieu’s new job is going well. He’s working SO hard and enjoys what he’s doing. He’ll be taking some insurance licensing classes towards the end of this month, and he’s excited to learn as much as he can. He’s still working for BYU, and that’s also going well.

7) Mathieu was called to serve in our ward as the Young Men’s 1st Counselor and the assistant Scout Master. He’s SO excited about his callings, especially because he gets to work with a couple of his little brothers. I was called as the Young Women’s Personal Progress Coordinator. I am ecstatic!!! I love the YW program and the YW, and I’m really excited that I get to work with my sister-in-law, Rosie.

8) We’ve had a TON of fun hanging out with the Hawkins and some of our other friends in the area. Ava always asks where Baby Ella is, and when she’s coming. Mindy showed her on the calendar, but “three months” doesn’t really make a ton of sense to an almost-3 year old!!!
